Ecominds

Forest of Bradford Volunteers – Nurturing Natural Talent

Our aim

The aim of the project is to plant 30,000 trees every year in theBradford district. Over the past 11 years this has been achieved thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers. We are delighted to be one of the 130 Ecominds funded projects that has sustained and enriched our volunteers’ programme by giving people that have had or are still experiencing mental distress, the opportunity to work with us on a range of practical tasks.

Join us

The results speak for themselves! Most of our Ecominds volunteers have continued to volunteer with us since the beginning of the project. They remain happy, focussed and hard-working despite the difficult weather conditions during the winter months.

If you enjoy the outdoors, meeting new people and learning new skills, join us!

We meet every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year at our office in Manningham. Transport and protective clothing is provided.

What we do

Forest of Bradford has unique access agreements for woodland sites in the district linked to ‘Friends of Groups’ and over 150 farm woodlands for a range of practical activities. These include tree planting, tree aftercare (pruning and thinning) access improvement, fencing, habitat maintenance, which includes; hedge laying, dry stone walling, wildflower meadows and woodland waterways. We also construct and manage ponds and improve community green spaces.

Qualification

We are delighted to announce that we can offer our volunteers the opportunity to be accredited with a City and Guilds NPTC qualification throughCravenCollege. Nine of our volunteers are currently studying the Level 1 Certificate in Practical Horticulture Skills which is supported and assessed byForestofBradfordqualified staff. This will enhance employment opportunities for our volunteers.
