Energy Performance Certificates
BEAT are accredited to do Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) through the Stroma Certification scheme. EPCs are a legal requirement if you are selling or letting a property but may also be needed for a number of other reasons, for example if you want to claim incentives for generating your own electricity or heat or if you just want to know how energy efficient your house is and what you could do to improve it.
What information does an EPC provide?
An EPC gives properties an energy efficiency rating on a scale of A (most energy efficient) to G (the least energy efficient). It also tells prospective buyers or tenants how much they can expect to pay for their annual energy bills (please bear in mind however that these figures are average figures and are purely based on the physical characteristics of the house rather than how much energy the existing occupants use). An EPC also tells you what measures could be taken to improve the energy efficiency of the house, the average cost and the predicted savings.
How is an EPC produced?
We will visit your house to do a full survey of everything that influences the energy efficiency of the property. This will include looking at things such as the boiler, controls for your heating such as a timer and thermostat, levels of insulation, windows, lighting, and the type of walls and floors you have. We will need to take photos of all of these things and will also take measurements of each floor in the house. We will require access to all parts of the house, including the loft (we will bring a ladder) but will not need to do anything such as lift carpets or move furniture. The survey will take between 30 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the house.
How much does it cost?
An EPC from BEAT starts at £50 but may vary according to the size of the property.
Why use us?
BEAT has a long record of working with local communities in Bradford and we primarily work with disadvantaged groups through our fuel poverty and tree planting projects. As a registered charity, your EPC fee will help to support a not-for-profit organisation as we continue this other work.
How do I organise an EPC through BEAT?
You can contact BEAT by emailing or phoning Kate. Our contact details are: kate@beat.org.uk or 01274 487270. All members of staff at BEAT are part-time so email is usually the best initial option for contacting us, particularly if you want to move quickly.
