Energy and Sustainability Support
BEAT offers domestic energy advice as well as more specialist energy advice and consultancy to community organisations and businesses. We aim to enable effective energy management with the ultimate aim of enabling households, community buildings and businesses to realise financial savings.
We can offer:
Energy audits
A site visit and report giving tailored advice for your community centre or business on opportunities to save energy, energy tariffs, benchmarking of energy use and a review of the feasibility of renewable technologies
Training
We can offer training in a range of energy management areas, including on how to conduct your own energy audit, basic energy management, energy awareness for support workers, and renewable technology options
Community engagement activities
We can organise and run an energy engagement event for you or attend a pre-planned event. We can also develop community champion schemes and train volunteers.
Home energy advice
We can carry out home energy checks to advise households on all aspects of saving money on gas and electricity bills, including advice on tariff switching, grants available towards energy bills, advice on insulation and heating systems, and general energy saving information
Project development opportunities

Examples of our work:
We have delivered a wide range of energy support programmes for local authorities and local communities. Some of these are listed below but also click here.
Bradford District Climate Change Pledge (on behalf of Bradford District Partnership) – A business engagement project involving promoting the climate change pledge and delivering 40 free Business energy audits.
Bradford Council - BEAT were comissioned to provide free energy audits, training and capital grants for 30 community buildings in the Shipley Area Office.
Kirklees Council - we undertook 20 energy audits for community buildings in Kirklees, with a particular emphasis on the installation of renewable energy technologies.
Sustainable Saltaire – BEAT helped this Community Interest Company deliver its community energy project funded through DEFRA’s Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF). BEAT’s activity included: establishing a community energy champions scheme, co-ordinating a community engagement event, and conducting energy audits of 5 domestic properties and 2 community buildings.
Community Cascade – A four year programme of support for community buildings in West Yorkshire. Funded by Big Lottery, co-ordinated by Fit 4Funding and involving 10 consortia partners, BEAT has to date undertaken 70 energy audits of community buildings and trained individuals from over 150 organisations. We have also developed energy monitoring, renewable energy and funding toolkits
Community building energy support in the South Pennine Leader area – Similar to the above but focussed on the South Pennines. This also included a capital grants scheme and exchange visits.
Community owned renewables training – A three day course on renewable energy technologies and community owned business models.
