The main work of the Forest of Bradford project is to establish more trees / woodland cover within the district. In 1997 the district had a level of woodland cover slightly over 4%, well below the national average. We hope to increase this level to around 8%, the equivalent of around one million trees.
Planting schemes might include a few fruit trees on a school playing field , a field corner or whole field farm woodland schemes.
There are several grant sources we can access to enable landowners to cover the costs of a tree planting scheme. The two main ones are:
Forestry Commission ” Woodland Creation Grant “
Forestry Commission WCS grants tend to cover larger schemes from 0.25ha to above. The amount of money available varies depending on the type of woodland, where it is and who / what it caters for. For 1.0 hectare of new broadleaved woodland the rate can be anything between £2800 to £4800. Forest of Bradford can act as agents for interested landowners to help draw this funding in.
Forest of Bradford Grants
For planting schemes less than 0.25 hectares, or those that are not eligible for Forestry Commission funding, our own grant can help pay for a planting scheme.
In all cases we are able to offer free advice regarding types of trees and design of a planting scheme, and to help complete application forms, plant and ensure the aftercare of the newly planted trees.
