Energy prices, wind turbines, feed-in tariffs, insulation, new boilers ……. energy issues are never far from the news at the moment.
BEAT has been offering energy advice to community centres, businesses and households for the last 4 years through partnerships with a number of public and private sector partners.
Why?
There are many benefits to actively adopting good energy management practices. These include:
- Financial savings – the key driver for everyone whether you manage a community centre which doesn’t have a regular income, run a business where managing your running costs are key or are a householder where energy bills are taking a significant proportion of your income.
- Environmental benefits - reducing energy use results in reduced carbon dioxide emissions and improved resource efficiency
- Improved comfort - a new heating system or insulation can make a community centre feel more welcoming or help reduce damp problems in a household. Saving £200 by switching energy tariffs may allow a household to have their heating on slightly more, making them feel more comfortable.
- Health benefits - living in a cold, damp house can have significant health implications, enbaling residents to heat their homes in an affordable way will reduce adverse health impacts.
- Spreading best practice - installing solar panels on the village hall generates energy awareness in the local community and if you benefit from switching energy suppliers then telling your neighbour dispels myths about the process and spreads the message further
